'Born in 1920 in Middlesbrough, he served with 9 DLI during the Second World War. He was killed in action, as a Lance Corporal with C Company, on 17 July 1943 at Primosole Bridge, Sicily. The battle to take the bridge from German paratroops was one of the most bitter actions fought by the DLI and cost the Regiment over 500 men killed, wounded or missing. Robert Wild was buried in Catania, Sicily. He was 23 years old.'

The odd name and number above is out of surname alphabetical sequence--perhaps due to some kind of initial admin oversight. But it is notable how most surnames follow alphabetically within their specific training draft.
