The photographs of sporting activities at BAB 21 on this and the following pages look like they were taken by a professional photographer, possibly for the use of the Red Cross for use in their monthly magazine Prisoner of War, which was sent to the families of all British POWs. For understandable reasons the magazine presented an unduly rosy picture of POW life which made their routine seem like a holiday camp. In reality Other Ranks British POWs had to work six days a week at hard industrial labour and events such as these were very rare indeed.
