The Funeral of a British POW at BAB 21

This sequence of seven photographs, all courtesy of Keith Newman, depicts the funeral with full military honours of a British POW at BAB 21. Does anyone know the identity of the unfortunate soldier?

Note the coffin at the rear of the procession and the soldier in pre-war service dress to the right, suggesting this event took place quite early in the war. The British POW leading the mourners in this shot seems to be a private soldier. However, the British soldier walking with the German officers in later images is most likely to be the senior British officer, possibly the Medical Officer, or the Senior NCO and ‘Man of Confidence at the camp. Who was he?
