News item Bucks Herald, 1/9/44, p 5: 'Mr and Mrs Rolfe of Bledlow have been notified that their son, Pte Alfred Cyril Rolfe of the 9th Btn Durham Light Infantry has been killed while serving in Normandy. He was 19 years of age, joining the Army at the age of 18 when he served in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, being transferred later to the Durham Light Infantry. Cyril, who resided with his grandparents, was a great favourite with the village lads, being a keen footballer, also a member of the ATC. He was educated at the Church of England School, Waddeson.'
