Grange, L/Cpl W B 4469520. 16 DLI. Enlisted Jan 1942. From Fencehouses, Northumberland? Or Shiney Row? Stalag 4D/Z German POW Number 228213. Served with my father, Pte T Tunney, in the 9th Battalion, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment, Alexandria, Scotland in 1945-46.

Possibly this W Grange, photograph Sunderland Echo, 20/8/43, p 8: 'Two Shiney Row men, brothers in law, have met in an Italian prisoners of war camp. They are SQMS Stanley Orriss, RTC of 9 Hindson's Crscent and L/CPl William Grange, DLI of 1 Clarke's Buildings. They met at Settore, where SQMS Orriss had been interned for some time. L/Cpl Grange was transfered to the camp from another part of Italy and although he knew his brother in law was a prisoner of war it was a great surprise to them when they met.'
